(STATEHOUSE) - A House committee votes next week on requiring Indiana electric companies to use renewable energy.
Companies would have to steadily increase their use of wind, solar and other alternative power till those sources comprise 8% of production within ten years.
Indiana Energy Association lobbyist Ed Simcox says a goal of 5% might be achievable, but flatly calls 8% impossible. He predicts rate hikes of close to 8% if the bill passes.
