(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Jean Breaux has introduced new legislation making voter deception in Indiana a class “D” felony.
Breaux's bill would punish anyone who purposely deceives someone else when providing information about an election or about a person's voting qualifications. Breaux says it's the kind of crime which is commonly perpetrated against minorities and the elderly.
The new punishment level would mean a person found guilty of voter deception could face anywhere from six months to three years behind bars.
