Last updated on Tuesday, January 2, 2007

(STATEHOUSE) - State Representative Eric Koch, of Bedford, has introduced a new law protecting gun owners from having their firearms confiscated during a state of emergency.

Koch wrote the law after learning that police in New Orleans took firearms from residents following Hurricane Katrina.

Ten states and the federal government have written similar laws. Koch's District includes Lawrence, Jackson, Bartholomew and Brown counties.
