Indiana Attorney General Offers Opinion

(UNDATED) - Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter has issued an opinion on a 2005 law stopping convicted felons from running for elected office.
Carter says Representatives William Crawford and Chet Dobis asked him for his opinion on whom the law stops from running. Carter says any office voted on by the people, except for party specific jobs like precinct committeemen or convention delegates are covered under the statute.
Carter says he issued his opinion this week because Wednesday was the first day many prospective candidates could file their intention to run for office in November.
