New Bill For Selective Service Signup

Last updated on Monday, January 22, 2007

(STATEHOUSE) - State Representative David Orentlicher has introduced a bill which would automatically enroll men aged 16 to 26 for Selective Service when they apply for their driver’s license.

Indiana and 11 other states do not offer registration for draft service through their bureaus of motor vehicles.

Only about three-quarters of eligible men in Indiana are registered for Selective Service, which is mandated by law.

States which sign men up as they take their driver's test have a much higher registration rate.
