(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana General Assembly begins working on new laws today.

Only one bill must be passed, but that bill will affect many other initiatives: the new two-year state budget.

The state will have about $1.6-billion in new money to work with. Governor Daniels wants to use some of that money for full-day kindergarten. Senate appropriations chairman Bob Meeks says the public will insist on property-tax relief, and says that may not leave much money for other items.
