Hoosier Lawmakers To Discuss Wage Increase

Last updated on Thursday, January 11, 2007

(STATEHOUSE) - A House committee is expected to take up a minimum-wage increase today, but there are different ideas on how much and how fast.

At least five democrats have offered different forms of a minimum-wage hike. They range from the $7.25-an-hour Congressional Democrats are proposing, to a $9.00-an-hour plan introduced by Evansville Representative Phil Hoy.

Hoy says he plans to abandon his proposal and back a rival plan to bump the wage to $7.50, simply because it's more likely to pass. He says he'll introduce a separate proposal requiring state agencies and contractors to pay at least $9.43 an hour.
