Hoosier Lawmakers Begin Minimum Wage Phase-In

(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana lawmakers have started the ball rolling in raising the state’s minimum wage.
The vote was 7-5 on a party-line vote, the House Labor Committee voted to phase in an increase to a minimum wage of $7.50 an hour. That's 25 cents more than a proposal passed by the U.S. House.
Indiana would have the eighth-highest minimum wage rate in the nation if the law passes in the senate. Labor and religious groups praised the proposal as a matter of justice, while business groups predict it will hurt the people legislators seek to help.
