Chamber Wants Legislators To Hold Off On New Property Tax Laws

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is urging legislators to take a break from tinkering with property taxes.
Lawmakers in both parties say they want to cushion the blow of projected property tax increases of 15% or more.
Chamber Taxation Director Bill Waltz says it's time to reduce local government's reliance on property taxes, but says an association of cities and towns proposal to allow wider use of local income taxes needs a way to hold cities accountable.
And Waltz argues despite the projected increases, homeowners' bills are below the national median. He says most forms of tax relief would shift even more of the burden to business.
