(WASHINGTON, D-C) - Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is back from a trip to visit U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq and has recommendations for military change in the region.

Bayh visited the Middle East with New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Representative John McHugh.

The Hoosier Democrat says he's encouraged about how Afghan forces have embraced American military efforts, but calls the actions of Iraqi leaders "lip service" to President Bush's plan for a democratic Iraq.

Bayh says conversations with Iraqi leaders lead him to believe the country's rulers would prefer the U.S. supply guns to fight the native insurgency and then vacate the area.
