(STATEHOUSE) - The one recount with an outside chance of shifting control of the Indiana House gets underway today in Vernon.

Democrats won 51 seats on election night, but they were 53 votes away from getting three more. They've asked for recounts in those slim races.

The only Republican pursuing a recount is North Vernon's Billy Bright, unseated by 1,600 votes to Democrat David Cheatham. Bright thinks it is suspicious that 30% of the votes in his home county came from absentee ballots.

If Bright is able to erase Cheatham's lead while the three closer races stayed unchanged, that would create a 50-50 tie. State law gives control to the party of the Secretary of State. Reelected Todd Rokita is a Republican.
