(INDIANAPOLIS) - Several hundred people packed an Indianapolis auditorium to attend a public hearing on the proposed contract to pay IBM and its partners more than $1-billion over ten years to help run Indiana’s programs for food stamps, Medicaid and welfare.

Public comment became contentious at times, with many people speaking out against the contract. State officials say the governor will take the public's concerns into consideration before he makes his decision on the IBM deal.

There were also some supporters of the plan, saying IBM's resources are badly needed to reform social services and cut through the red tape.
