Hoosier Schools To Go New-Tech
(STATEHOUSE) - Governor Mitch Daniels says Indiana has won a series of grants to develop technical high schools across the state.
Sixteen grants worth $50-thousand apiece will be handed out to Indiana school districts. The cash will be used to put in place a model for so-called "new tech" high schools, which aim to better prepare students for technologically-advanced jobs. Classes in advanced math, science and technology will be available to students attending these schools.
The program does not require added classroom space, so much as it requires a change in methodology. The first four school corporations which will take part are the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, the Monroe County schools, Marion County's Decatur Township schools and the Rochester Community School Corporation. Students currently in 8th grade in those districts represent the first graduating class from the four new tech high schools.
