Darfur Coalition Meets With Lugar

(INDIANAPOLIS) - United States Senator Richard Lugar has met privately with a coalition calling for more aid in Darfur, a region of the Sudan.
Lugar heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and has overseen legislation to send relief to that part of Africa.
Lugar met with religious and community leaders and native Darfurians Saturday at the University of Indianapolis. The group wants Lugar to step up his efforts to end the genocide in Darfur.
The United Nations estimates 180,000 people have died there, with another two million displaced. Indiana has a sizable community from Darfur, including nearly 300 from that region living in Fort Wayne.
