Poll Numbers Could Be Higher This Year

Last updated on Tuesday, November 7, 2006

(UNDATED) - After all the campaigning, advertising and speechmaking, today’s election comes down to turning out the vote.

Turnout is always lower in non-presidential years. Four years ago, it was 38%. With three and possibly as many as five hotly-contested congressional races, both parties expect those numbers to be up.

State GOP Spokesman Robert Vane calls republican get-out-the-vote efforts "unprecedented" and Democratic Chairman Dan Parker says thousands of organizers are doing the same on his party's side. Parker notes the turnout number is likely to be higher no matter what, because thousands of inactive registrations have been purged from the files.
