Garton Reflects On His Career

(UNDATED) - The 36-year senate career of longtime President Pro Tem Robert Garton officially ended after Tuesday’s election.
Garton says his greatest achievement was passing Indiana's open door and open records laws. Making food exempt from sales tax was also an accomplishment for him. But he considers his real accomplishment the way he ran the Senate for 26 of his 36 years, maintaining decorum and mutual respect.
Garton says he's disappointed in the negative politics. He calls this year's campaigns the worst in his lifetime. The Columbus Republican says the constant attacks only make it harder to govern when one wins. Republican Greg Walker will take over Garton's seat after winning in the May primary.
