(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Karen Tallian says she plans to file legislation which would put a cap on utility regulatory costs.
Under the new law, utility companies would have a maximum amount they could charge for connection and re-connection fees. Also, deposits some companies require to initiate service would not be allowed to exceed the average monthly bill for that customer.
Tallian says some poor customers are being asked to pay fees equal to four times their bill in order to have electricity, water or gas.
