(UNDATED) - Indiana Senator Evan Bayh says in the five years since the 9-11 attacks, the country has been woefully short in doing its due diligence.

Bayh says Congress has failed to act on many of the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission. He adds a recent report gives the nation's lawmakers low grades when it comes to their actions following the terrorist attacks.

Bayh says the nation must place more emphasis on making travel safer and must continue to put pressure on those in power to ensure the safety of all American people. In addition, he says Congress must communicate with soldiers on the front lines to find out what they need to do their job more effectively and battle terrorism in the Middle East.

Bayh is calling on Congress to pass "all" of the remaining tenets of the 9-11 commission's report.
