HMO's Change In The State
(STATEHOUSE) - The state has reduced the number of HMO’s handling Indiana’s children’s insurance program while increasing the number of choices for patients.
Hoosier Healthwise has been run by five HMO's, but with only one or two serving each third of the state. The new four-year contract gives the work to three managed-care groups, but each will operate statewide.
Enrollees can pick the plan which best suits their needs. St. Louis-based managed health services and Indianapolis-based M.D. Wise remain part of the program.
The third company, Indianapolis-based Wellpoint, is joining for the first time. The companies will split a $4.4-billion pie, with their shares depending on how many patients choose each plan. The new plans start with the new year.
