(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer wants to put the Secretary of State in charge of the state’s license branches.
Governor Daniels has dismissed calls from Bauer and other democrats to fire BMV Commissioner Joel Silverman.
Bauer says voters shouldn't have to wait for Daniels to come up for reelection to have a say. The Secretary of State serves a four-year term, same as the Governor.
Bauer says if the Secretary of State were in charge, the BMV would be the main thing he was judged by. Democratic Secretary of State nominee Joe Pearson calls the idea worth looking at as a possible money-saving measure. Republican incumbent Todd Rokita labels the idea, in his words, "election-year antics."
