Lugar And Others Sign Gas Reduction Bill
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Indiana Republican Richard Lugar has joined with seven other senators to introduce a bill they say would cut gasoline consumption by 16% from current levels.
Gasoline use is projected to rise 23% over the next 20 years.
The bill orders the government to increase fuel-economy standards for cars and trucks by one mile per gallon each year.
The senators estimate the improved efficiency would save consumers an average of $69-billion a year.
