Daniels Speaks To Subcommittee About Hoosier Road Construction

Last updated on Thursday, May 25, 2006

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Governor Daniels has told a congressional subcommittee the lease of the Indiana Toll Road will advance Indiana’s road construction timeline by more than 70 years.

Highways Subcommittee Chairman Thomas Petri of Wisconsin invited Daniels to testify as the committee considers whether similar privatizations should be encouraged elsewhere.

Oregon Representative Peter DeFazio, the ranking democrat on the panel, questioned whether the state wouldn't be better off pocketing the 12% profit a Spanish road operator expects to collect. Daniels says the state could never match that profit margin.
