(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma has filed a second appeal in the legal battle over prayer in the Indiana House.

A federal judge in Indianapolis ruled last year that opening prayers in the House could not mention "Jesus" or endorse a specific religion.

Bosma's latest appeal argues that prayer ruling violates first amendment rights to religion and freedom of speech.

A previous appeal that asked for a temporary lift on the prayer ban until an appeal could be heard was denied in March.

Bosma has indicated he would take the issue to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.
