Photo ID Requirement Will Be Used For The First Time Tuesday

Last updated on Friday, April 28, 2006

(UNDATED) - Indiana’s new statewide voter registration list makes its debut in next week’s primary.

The statewide voter list was required by the federal "Help America Vote Act." Indiana HAVA outreach director Julia Bauler says people who might have lost their vote by going to the wrong polling place can now be directed to the right one instead.

Eventually, the list will be used to purge duplicate registrations, but Bauler says it's doubtful that can happen by the fall election. Voters will also have to show a photo I.D. at the polls for the first time. That's not a HAVA requirement -- it's a new state law.
