STATEHOUSE—Senator Brent Steele, of Bedford, got his Senate Bill 5, better known as the Funeral Bill, through final passage Thursday and on the fast track to the Governor’s desk.
Gov. Daniels said the bill did not have to make it to his desk, he would be waiting to sign it at the door.
The bill was amended to add an emergency clause in an effort to get the law in effect before a funeral of a recently fallen Hoosier Marine set to take place next week.
Since filing the bill, Steele has learned of other states around the nation writing similar legislation.
The bill was signed by the Governor Thursday night.
