STATEHOUSE—The Senate has approved Governor Daniels’ Toll Road lease.
Lawmakers in the House will now have 12 days to come out with a final version of the bill. It's the first of four votes on the floor and in committee that didn't fall along straight party lines.
Indianapolis Democrat Glenn Howard voted for the bill, and five Republicans voted no. But most GOP Senators agreed with Appropriations Chairman Robert Meeks, who says the $3.8-billion lease payment can convert years of road construction promises to action.
