(STATEHOUSE) - Legislators have gotten in their last licks against the Indiana Toll Road Lease before a Spanish-Australian consortium takes control June 30th.

Democrats on the State Budget Committee made one last symbolic try and slowing down the deal, trying to strike it from the committee agenda.

Assistant Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson calls the required review "The last gasp of legislative oversight." She declares she's "embarrassed" the panel waved it through without even seeing the wording of a contract rider reflecting a toll freeze passed by the legislature.

House Ways and Means Chairman Jeff Espich shot back; he's embarrassed by opponents who played up the fact a foreign company will be in charge. But he acknowledges the public doesn't like the deal. He says he's certain it will cost the GOP its majority in the house.
