Anti-I-69 Groups Say Lease Unconstitutional

STATEHOUSE-Three anti-I-69 groups contend Governor Daniels’ proposed Toll Road Lease is not merely bad policy, but unconstitutional.

The state's disastrous investment in the Wabash-Erie Canal in the 1830s prompted not only Indiana's constitutional requirement for a balanced budget, but a provision declaring the net annual income from state public works must be used to pay off public debt.

John L. Smith with the group Count Us says opponents of a new-terrain 69 will try to raise the money to sue if the lease bill passes.
