STATEHOUSE—State Senator Vi Simpson’s bill to reduce the interest rates of the college loans of Hoosier students has moved to the House for consideration.
Under the legislation, the Indiana market for secondary loans will issue cash directly to students without using banks as intermediaries.
That move would eliminate the origination fee some banks charge and subsequently lower interest rates as the loans are paid back.
