Indiana House Democrats Still Questioning Toll Road Lease
STATEHOUSE—As the Indiana Toll Road lease deal moves to the Senate, House Democrats are still challenging the numbers on the benefits the Daniels Administration says it would bring.
A Spanish-Australian consortium has offered $3.85-billion for the road. But Minority Leader Patrick Bauer notes some amendments to the Toll Road bill will reduce the take a little.
Bauer puts the cost of last-minute amendments at $500-million. The Legislative Serives Agency puts those costs at $340-million.
Bauer contends the 200 projects Gov. Daniels wants to fund with the money, including I-69 and U.S. 31, would cost $5.2-billion over ten years.
The administration points out there's still a highway budget in addtion to the toll road money, and that the toll road check will be earning interest in the meantime.
