Proposed Tax Increase Goes Up In Smoke
STATEHOUSE—If you are a heavy smoker, you were relieved to learn that the Governor’s proposed cigarette tax increase failed.
However, the 80 cent per pack tax increase could have returned 150 million dollars to the state.
The higher tax might have caused a few to stop the habit. With the state's health costs spiraling, you'd have thought that tax would have been an easy one to get passed out of the House Public Health committee.
