STATEHOUSE— The Governor’s cigarette tax proposal may not be the only piece of legislation aimed to reduce the number of Hoosier smokers.
Gov. Daniels says he will push another measure to discourage smoking.
He wants employers to be able to offer health insurance discounts to nonsmokers. It's currently illegal to do so. The governor says employers hands should not be tied in encouraging wellness among employees.
Daniels isn't ready to say who may sponsor this bill. The governor announced during his State of the State speech last week that he also wants to discourage smoking by increasing the cigarette tax another 25ยข per pack at the minimum.
