Shirley Louise (Williams) Brinegar - Bedford

Shirley Louise Brinegar, 74, of Bedford, was called to the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at 4:05 a.m. at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bedford.

Shirley, or Granny as she was lovingly known by many, was born and raised in Bedford, to Clay and Marjorie (Anderson) Williams-Stevens. She was married to Donald Brinegar for many years, and he survives.

Granny was a woman of many trades and talents from sewing blue jeans at Fines to baking cookies and cakes in the bakery she helped her daughter Debra to grow. She loved being with her family, having dinner or just a glass of tea.

She was always busy planting flowers in her yard, sewing or reading. She loved being outdoors and taking walks through her woods. She was a strong woman of God, and loved and served the Lord from a young child. You could always count on her to listen and pray for you.

She knew her Bible well and was quick to offer you scripture for strength, comfort and guidance. Like the time 30 years ago, I hated to go to kindergarten. She prayed for me and tore a scripture from her well-worn Bible, and placed it in my shoe, Genesis 28:15. She new God's word would bring me strength, and help me to make it not only through kindergarten, but through the rest of my life.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Debra and husband Tim Marshall of Bedford, Brian Brinegar and wife Madonna, of St. Cloud, FL., and Ann Dyer of Bedford; many grandchildren, Crystal and husband Herschel, Jeremy and wife Alisha, Jason, Brian and Sky, Brandon and Susan, Brittany and husband, Six, and Stephanie and Leah; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Padgett; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Robert Williams, who died in
September 2012.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Tabernacle of Praise in Bedford. Burial will be in Leatherwood Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home; and on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Granny, we will miss your presence more than our hearts can bear, but we take comfort knowing you are rejoicing with Jesus today. Have a glass of tea with Him for us, and one day soon, we will join you around the table of our Savior for dinner once again; only then, we shall never part.
