Lavella Mae Foddrill - Bedford

Lavella Mae Foddrill, 86, of Bedford passed away at 2:52 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at IU Health Hospital.

Born February 4, 1926 in Lawrence County she was the daughter of Hubert and Pearl (Eggers) Craig. She married Albert W. Foddrill on April 17, 1954 and he preceded her in death. She was a member of Dive Christian Church.

Survivors include, four daughters, Patty Martin and husband Mike, of Bedford, Donna Holler and husband David, of Bedford, Sondra Hubbard and husband David, of Bedford, Pamela Neeley, raised by grandparents and husband Rondale, of Heltonville; six grandchildren, Lora Joyner and husband Greg, Kelly Caudill and husband Billy, Shayne Hubbard and wife Mandy, Jimmy Courtright and wife Stephanie, Tammy Taylor and husband Harry and Daymon Hubbard and wife Amanda; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Kenneth Craig and two sisters, Marcella and husband Roy Baker and Jean and husband Wayne Baker.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 and from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Day & Carter Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Christmas Fund at Dive Christian Church.

John R. Ginger - Bedford

John R. Ginger, 89, of Bedford, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 1:45 p.m. at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born January 1, 1923 in Fayette County, Illinois, he was the son of Ronnie and Eatherl (Myers) Ginger.

He graduated from Herrick High School in 1942. He attended James Millinkin University, in Decatur, ILL. Southern Ill and Purdue Universities. He joined Herrick Christian Church and was baptized by them in running water in Kaskaskia River in Illinois in the fall of 1937. John became Deacon and Church Treasurer and later became Doctor of Biblical Studies and Ordained Minister. John worked several occupations in life. In Vandalia, Ill, he was an Architectural Assistant in Mechanical Section, City Engineer, Director of Public Works and City Manager. After retiring he became a registered professional. locksmith and conducted several seminars in locksmithing. He was a 67-year member of 32nd Degree Mason, 63-year Noble of Mystic Shrine and Veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion, Disabled Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution, Elks, Moose and Rotary Clubs and Associated Locksmiths of America, Safe and Vaults Technicians.

He married Esther Spangler in Blue Mound Christian Church on November 30, 1963, Of this union no children were born. Esther passed away on February 12, 2007.

Graveside funeral services will be on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery with burial to follow. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Edwin (Cap) Craig - Silverville

Edwin (Cap) Craig, 80, of Silverville passed away at 9:056 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 4, 1932 in Lawrence County he was the son of Forrest and Zona (West) Craig. He married Anna Dee Blake on May 26, 1952 and she survives. He was a carpenter and school bus driver for the NLCS for about 37 years. He loved draft horses and was an avid farmer and cattle man. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a military policeman stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Dee, of Springville; one daughter Rowena Hall and son-in-law Charlie Wilson of Silverville; one great grandson, Keaton Wilson; five sisters, Norma Terry and husband Bill, of Silverville; Viola Waggoner and husband Loren of Silverville, Anah Hall and husband Leonard, of Fayetteville, Wanda Craig, of Fayetteville, Doris Conner, of Fayetteville; two brothers, Donald Craig, of Needmore, and Audra (Short) Craig, of Silverville, one sister-in-law, Frances Craig, of Bedford; one brother-in-law Cleo Blake, of Indianapolis and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lowell Craig and Vince Craig; two brother-in-laws, Rev. Merla Craig and Vic Conner, four sisters-in-law Clarice Craig, Mary Ester Craig, Ruth Blake and Ruth Craig.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Silverville Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites accorded at the gravesite. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Evelyn B. Anderson - Springville

Evelyn B. Anderson, 94, of Springville passed away at 10 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born June 191917 in Swiss City she was the daughter of Henry Roscoe and Bessie (Hillenburg) Parker. She married Harold Richard Anderson on December 26, 1936 and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1978. She was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith and her hobby was gardening, her family and being outdoors. She attended Springville school.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Kerr, of Ellettsville; one son, Claude L. Anderson and wife Carol, of Bedford; three grandsons Joe Kerr and wife Julie, Troy Anderson and wife Lisa, both of Ellettsville and John Andeson and wife Charlene, of Avoca, four granddaughters, Donna Morrow and husband Eugene, of Oolitic, Lori Kelly and husband Gavin of Nashville, TN, Evie Miller and husband Merle D., both of Bedford; 22 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son-in-law Gerald Kerr and one son Harold Richard JR. at birth.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. o 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Larna June Smith - Bedford

Larna June Smith, 85, of Bedford passed way at 3:50 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born December 13, 1926 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Herschel and Ruth (Robinson) Nickless. She married Norman E. Smith on June 28, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2010. She retired from RCA. She attended Oolitic schools and was a member of Oolitic Methodist Church. Her hobbies were knitting and camping.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Lane and Debra Szemcsak and husband Bob, both of Oolitic, one son, David Smith and wife Jerri of Judah, three sisters, Mary Ford and husband Tim and Patty Roberts, both of Bedford and Gail Fish and husband Gary of Oolitic, one brother, Jack Nickless and wife Mary, one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Taflinger, one brother-in-law Charles Bud Jackson, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grand children, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Bob Nickless, one sister Maxine Luttrell, four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick and Michael Dennis Waldrip, Ryan Smith and one great great grandchild Weston Smith at birth.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary.

William E. Shirley - Bedford

William E. Shirley, 85, of Bedford, passed away at 2:05 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at his home.

Born March 31, 1927, he was the son of William Edmund Shirley St. and Josephine E. Shirley. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1944. He attended Purdue University on a G.I. Bill. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and was sent to Portsmouth, NH for training and then was deployed to Panama where he was a medic trained to go to Japan. The bomb on Hiro Shima saved his life. He went back to Purdue after the war and graduated in 1949 with a Batchelor of Science in Pharmacy. He passed his state boards and became a register pharmacist. He started his pharmacy career in Danville, IL in 1951. He moved back to Bedford and opened Edgewood Pharmacy. She still helped Mr. Smallwood and Mr. Howard while opening up his own pharmacy. In the late 50s and early 60s he opened the Edgewood Clinic and Pharmacy (then and now Bedford Medical Center). Bill sold his business after 25 years. Appointed by Ed Whitcomb, he was a member and President of the State Board of Pharmacy from 1968 to 1982. He was president for four years. He was also awarded the Saginaw of the Wabash by Governor Orr. He finished working behind the counter for Hooks on Lincoln Avenue and Super X. He worked for Butler until 2000. Ex students waiting to get license & graduate. After 52 years he called it quits. He was a charter member of Southland Church of Christ from 1958 to 2012. He was a Deacon for 15 years and an Elder from 1983 to 2005. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years.

Survivors include one son, William Tyree Shirley, of Bedford; two granddaughters, Felicia Lynnae Shirley and Sarah Elizabeth Shirley, both of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Dorothy of 43 years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Southland Church of Christ with Brother Pat Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery with Military rites accorded at the graveside. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Donna Jean Helton - Bedford

Donna Jean Helton, 76, of Bedford, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born July 25, 1935 in Martin County she was the daughter of Dennie and Lillian (Thomas) Fields. She married Claude Duane Helton on August 16, 1952 and he preceded her in death. She retired from GE. She was extremely devoted to her grandchildren, love yard work, cooking for friends and was a member of the Central church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Jim Helton, of Bedford; four grandchildren, Robin Bex of Bloomington, Jen Bex of Indianapolis, Caci Helton-Beyers and husband Tim of Bedford and Nate Helton, of Bedford; one brother, Buddy Fields and wife Ann, of Owensburg; one son-in-law, Bob Bex and wife Patty , of Bedford, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Claudia J. Bex, one brother Bryant Fields and one brother-in-law Arthur Helton.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Owensburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
