Wilmer C. Hunter - Heltonville
The Hunter Family grieves the loss of Wilmer C. Hunter, 93 years of age.
He was born in Lawrence County to George and Ida (Kern) Hunter.
After graduating from Heltonville High School in 1938, he joined his father on the family farm in the Mundell community.
On February 22, 1947, he married Sue Alice Thomas; and she survives along with their seven children.
Wilmer was a life-long farmer, seeing amazing changes in technology, machinery, and crop and livestock management. Three of his sons still tend the ground that was deeded by President Martin Van Buren in the Homestead Act.
Wilmer obeyed the gospel call in early life and was baptized into Christ. He taught his children and others to love and fear God. He had been a teacher for the public assembly at North Bedford Church of Christ, where he attended faithfully until his health failed.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Alice Hunter; children, Donald (Marilyn) Hunter, of Bedford, Walter (Cindy) Hunter, of Heltonville, Tom Hunter, of Heltonville, Dwight (Mona) Hunter, of Bedford, Kevin (Mary) Hunter, of Bloomington, Keith Hunter, of Heltonville, and Sudie Hunter, of Heltonville; nine grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Winton and Maurice Hunter; one sister, Onita Hunter; one daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Hunter; and two grandsons, Howard Dwight and Billy Hunter.
Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Brother Walter Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Mundell Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
