Glen R. Ohl - Bedford
Glen R. Ohl, 82, of Bedford passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family, with the wonderful support of Hospice, after a tenacious battle with cancer.
Married to the love of his life, Beverly Ann (Bell) for more than 61 years, Glen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The grandson of German immigrant farmers who settled in Danville, IL. And Covington, In. areas, Glen was a self-made man. As a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War, he actively served in the reconstruction of Europe after World War II. He then worked his way through General Motors Institute while helping raise his young sons. Upon graduating from GMI with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering; he worked at the Danville GM plant before transferring to Bedford. He was a member of the American Legion and he and his family have been lifelong members and supporters of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Glen was happy he lived long enough to see his bright little star great grandson Brayden take his first steps. Glen's grandchildren have promised to carry on their hero's legacy of hard work, responsibility and devotion to family - by being released from the bonds of this Earth. Glen will live on forever in the hearts, minds, bodies and actions of his loving family.
Survivors include his wife Beverly; sons Steven Ohl, of Bedford, Jeffery and his wife Colleen Ohl, of Dayton, Ohio, Timothy and his wife Azita Ohl, of Stamford, CT, Gregory and his wife Laura Ohl, of Bedford; grandchildren Philip and Alex, of Dayton, Ohio, Luke of Denver, CO., Mark, of Los Angeles, CA., Amber, Park City, UT., Justin and wife Marisa, of Bedford, Jordan, Purdue/West Lafayette, Jacob, Bedford; brother Tom and wife Janet, of Chicago, and his special cousin Bill and wife Wilma Hannah and Linda and husband Virlon Starr of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Frances Pinar Ohl, father Louis Gus Ohl, his angle aunt Lydia Ohl Hannah, two brothers, Grant and Victor.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Building Fund and Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.
