David L. Nolan - Mitchell
David L. Nolan of Mitchell passed away on Sunday at Bloomington Hospital at the age of 54. Born in 1956 in Bedford to Donald and Hilda Nolan, David was a graduate of Mitchell High School in the class of 1974 and Indiana University in the class of 1979. He was a CPA, was very active in the Mitchell Community, was currently serving as the president of the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce and had been director of the organization for 12 years. He was past chairman of the 1984 and 1996 Persimmon Festivals, served as parade chairman five years and in 2006 was honored as Grand Marshal. David was also honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1997 and Citizen of the Year in 2007. He is survived by his father; sisters, Anita Cornwell and her husband John, Lou Ann Jenkins and her husband Tom; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Thursday, March 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday and from 9:00AM until the hour of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Norman Pierce - Fayetteville
Norman Pierce of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, March 28th at the age of 82. Born in 1928 in Bedford to Elston and Charlotte Pierce, he had been married to June Staggs since 1950, was retired as a mill worker from Indiana Limestone Co. and attended Fayetteville Captist Church. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Brenda Pyle and her husband Ray; two brothers, Richard Pierce and James Pierce and his wife Ann; two sisters, Jane Kelly and Naomi Gillespie; as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Deanna Delaney. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, March 31st in the Elmwood Chapel Of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 30th at the funeral home.
Barbara Ann Piper - Bedford
Barbara Ann Piper of Bedford passed away on Sunday, March 27th at I.U. Health Hospital at the age of 78. Born in 1932 in Bedford to Edwards and Louise Mason, she had been married to Donald Piper and was a teacher at Bedford High School. She is survived by one daughter, Leslie Cagle; several grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services will be held at 3:30PM on Wednesday, March 30th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
V. Evelyn Charles - Bedford
V. Evelyn Charles of Bedford passed away on Sunday, March 27th at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 91. Born in 1919 in Lawrence County to John and Bertha York, she had been married to Kenneth Sears, was a homemaker and had worked for SS Kreske, RCA and Sarkes-Tarzian. She is survived by children, Violet Mikels and her husband Claude, Paul Sears and his wife Terri, Bucky Charles and his wife Linda; as well as several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Daniel Sears; two brothers, Ed and John York; and one sister, Dorothy Tillett. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, March 31st in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Leesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00PM until 8:00PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
