Russell Deckard of Heltonville, known to friends and family as “Rusty,” passed away Monday morning at Bloomington Hospital at the age of 45.
Born in 1963 to Harold and Dolly Deckard, Rusty suffered from Prader-Willi disease, which kept him home, and made him the unofficial "Mayor of Ramsey Ridge Road," attended LARC for 25 years, was a Special Olympian with 6 medals, volunteered at SICIL and Spring Mill State Park, was a junior Boy Scout Leader, honorary member of pleasant Run Senior Citizens, and member of Life Mission Ministries.
He is survived by his parents, sisters Rita and Melanie, brothers Robert and William, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held Friday afternoon at the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow at Gilgal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00pm today at Day & Carter.
