(SALEM, IN) - One man is dead, another is still on the loose after a home invasion in Washington County.

Reports indicate a homeowner near Salem was attacked by two men asking to use his phone Tuesday night.

The homeowner was able to get his gun and fired multiple shots.

One suspect, 36-year old Ronald Chastain of Salem, died at the scene.

The second suspect fled wearing a black and white homemade mask.

Police can't say for sure if he might've been hit by the gunfire.

The Washington County Prosecutor will have the final say on charges, but an Indiana homeowner has the right to use force to defend himself and his property.

State police say it appears that is what happened.
