(MITCHELL, IN) - A Mitchell man was struck and seriously injured while pumping gas at a Mitchell gas station Friday evening.

According to police, Morgan McNeely of Bedford was hauling a car on a truck trailer, traveling west on State Road 60 East when the driver of a white mini van pulled into his path.

McNeely claims that he attempted to avoid a collision by slamming on his brakes which then caused the brakes on the trailer to lock. The truck and the trailer then "jackknifed" and slid off of the roadway into the gas station's parking lot.

The trailer then slid into 48-year-old Gary Edward's vehicle while he pumped gas into it.

As the trailer hit Edwards car, the trailer pushed Edward's car against the gas pump, pinning Edwards between the two objects.

Edwards was stabilized by ambulance crews prior to being transported to Mitchell High School Soccer Field, where he was then airlifted to a Louisville Hospital.

Edwards reportedly suffered multiple fractures to both of his legs.
