(BLOOMFIELD, IN) - A Greene County Commissioner was arrested early yesterday morning by Linton City Police for domestic battery and has since been released.

41-year-old Bart A. Beard of Bloomfield was arrested after he reportedly battered his girlfriend with his hands.

Upon arrival at the residence, police noted the girlfriend to have been very upset and complained of pain to her jaw.

Police reports also indicate bodily injury to the woman's legs and other parts of her face.

Beard has since been released from the Greene County Jail after he posted $100 cash out of his $1,000 bond.

Beard currently serves as president of Greene County Board of Commissioners.

On his off time not being commissioner, Beard serves the coach of the boys junior varsity basketball team as well as coach of the high school golf team at Linton-Stockton School.

The Mayor of Linton as well as the attorney for the Greene County Board of Commissioners said that it is too early to determine Beards future employment with the county.

City policy states that a worker will not be removed from their job unless they are convicted of a felony charge; Beard was arrested on a preliminary misdemeanor charge.
