Indiana State Police Warns Public About Internet Scams

(UNDATED) - The Criminal Investigation Division of the Indiana State Police reminds citizens to be cautious when using the endless amounts of money transactions that are easily available in today’s markets, meaning internet scams and internet fraud.

First Sergeant Kevin Hobson, commander of the Criminal Investigation Division at the Bloomington District said, "The recognition of a scam or fraud is the most important factor in determining whether someone will become a victim. Most scams may involve the use of one or more of the following".

- Inquiry from someone far away, at times, from another country

- The use of wire services, cashier's check, money order, shipping, escrow service or any "guarantee"
- Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face before beginning the transaction.

ISP would overall just like all citizens to know that if an offer found on the internet or in email sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
