(ORLEANS) - The Lotus Dickey Hometown Music and Arts Reunion begins this weekend.

The festival got its start from Orange County musician Lotus Dickey who was taught by his brother to play the fiddle and guitar in the early 1920's, the instruments of course ordered from a Sears Roebuck catalog, and began to play folk songs for local dances and parties.

From 1981 until his death in 1989 his musical life flourished, performing at major folk music festivals around the world.

The 14th annual Orange County festival in his honor begins downtown Orleans tonight at 6:00 PM and is free of charge.
