ISP Making Efforts To Keep Drivers Safe This Weekend
(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police would like to remind all motorists to do their part in making our highways safe during this upcoming holiday.
Last year, five people were killed in automobile crashes on Indiana roadways during the Independence Day driving period.
According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, three of those deaths were alcohol related and there were 131 alcohol related crashes during the July 4th holiday in 2008.
To help ensure the safety of all motorists during this heavily traveled holiday, The Indiana State Police will be participating in operation, combined accident reduction effort from July 3 through July 7.
Operation C.A.R.E. Is a federally funded program and will allow approximately one hundred fifty additional troopers to patrol area roadways over this holiday period.
Officers will also participate in statewide driving under the influence project.
Troopers will target impaired drivers, motorists who speed, follow too closely, make unsafe lane changes and drive aggressively.
