Correctional Facility Officer Faces Drug Charges

(TERRE HAUTE) - A Wabash Valley Correctional Facility officer faces criminal charges after being caught overnight trying to traffic marijuana into the maximum-security prison.

According to a report in the Greene County Daily World, 25 year old James Sheerin of Terre Haute was stopped by staff as he tried to enter the facility with 250 grams of marijuana, six cell phones and chargers, 75 grams of tobacco and a video game player were also recovered.

The staff then searched Sheerin's car where they found 18 grams of heroin, 18 grams of cocaine and more cell phones.

Sheerin faces preliminary felony charges of possession of heroin, cocaine and marijuana, along with trafficking with an inmate.

Sheerin worked at the facility for just over seven months.

He has been suspended 30 days without pay pending dismissal.
