(GREENE CO.) - One person was killed when a moped struck a semi last night in Greene County.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's Department 47 year old Robert Simon of Linton was driving his 2008 Yamaha moped west on County Road 400S and was approaching the intersection with SR 67.

At the same time a 2005 Volvo semi driven by James Johnson of Elberfield was traveling north on the highway.

Johnson stated that he saw Simon approaching the intersection; however it did not appear that Simon was going to stop.

Johnson attempted to avoid the moped by swerving but was unable to miss the vehicle.

Simon died as a result of his injuries, and he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Johnson was not injured in the accident, and speed is not believed to be a factor.

The accident remains under investigation.
