(MITCHELL) - Six school children from the Mitchell area suffered minor injuries after their school bus ran off the road and struck a tree Friday afternoon.

Lawrence County police reports say 65-year-old Terry McKnight of Orleans was driving his bus south on Stumphole Bridge Road when the bus bobbed off the roadway, and McKnight couldn't correct it, causing the right side of the bus to hit the tree.

Six students between the ages of 6 and 12 suffered minor injuries from cuts and abrasions to bruises, although one was taken by ambulance to Bedford Regional Medical Center and another was taken by personal vehicle to Dunn Memorial Hospital.

No citations were issued but a toxicology test was issued to McKnight as standard procedure in such instances.
