(BLOOMINGTON) - Technogeeks of the highest order will have something to celebrate this afternoon as officials from Indiana University and the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane make official a large grant for an electron linear accelerator.

Officials at IU say they, along with Crane officials, will make official $1.17 million in grants for the accelerator at IU's Cyclotron Facility.

Crane will get use from the device by using it to test space and missile systems in radiation environments that exist in orbit, while IU will use the accelerator, known as the "Advanced LINAC," for research and teaching purposes.
