Community Comes Out To Support Decker, Merritt
(GREENE COUNTY) - In times of personal tragedy, it’s amazing how a community can come together to help each other out.
Case in point, the gasoline explosion in Scotland, Indiana that left two young boys in critical condition.
The Greene County Daily World reports Bloomfield State Bank has accounts open to accept donations to the families affected, and a benefit event is being organized for both families at the Bloomfield American Legion for May 2nd at 7:00pm.
Additionally, students at both Bloomfield and Loogootee Elementary Schools, where the two young boys went to school, have made get well soon cards, and Bloomfield Superintendent Dan Sichting says the school itself is organizing a fund drive for the families, and money is also being raised at the Loogootee schools.
Right now, it is believed that 10-year-old Nicholas Decker and 11-year-old Joshua Merritt poured gasoline from a can onto burning embers, and that caught and traveled up into the can, but the investigation is still ongoing.
