Fire Damages North Side Home This Morning
(BEDFORD) - Fire broke out at a home in northern Bedford early this morning that damaged most of the building.
Bedford Fire Chief Scott Gillespie tells WBIW News a passerby called 911 just after midnight this morning telling them the home at 29 Madison Street was on fire. Bedford fire crews arrived to find the front part of the house engulfed in flame.
Firefighters didn't see anyone standing outside them home, as is typical during a late night fire, and sent search and rescue crews inside to make sure nobody was inside.
Search teams didn't find anybody and the home was determined to be unoccupied, and so firefighters spent the next 3.5 hours extinguishing the blaze.
Gillespie says moderate to heavy fire damage was found in 30% of the home with smoke damage throughout the entire interior.
No injuries reported and the fire did not spread to any neighboring homes.
